Matthew 14:25–27 captures a moment of both fear and faith as Jesus approaches His disciples, walking on the surface of the sea. The passage says, “Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. ‘It’s a ghost,’ they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: ‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.’” In this miraculous event, Jesus demonstrates His complete authority over nature, revealing that even the forces of creation are subject to His command.
This passage is more than a display of divine power—it’s a tender reminder of Jesus’ presence in the midst of fear and chaos. The disciples were caught in a storm, but Jesus came to them, walking on what they feared most. His words, “Take courage, it is I,” assure us that when He is near, fear must give way to faith. Matthew 14:25–27 reveals that no storm or darkness can separate us from Christ’s care, and that His presence brings peace even when the waves rise high.
