Luke 4:18 Art Installation - Shelter KC

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed... - Luke 4:18
Donated art installation from Majesty Project at Shelter KC at 1520 Cherry Street, Kansas City

Majesty Project's team (plus our three sons) joined Shelter KC in their main lobby on the 13th of this month, and we had the honor of installing our first original art piece, "Liberty to the Captives."

This was a milestone moment for Majesty Project. After 10 months of building, planning, communication and connecting, it was surreal to see the original artwork finally hanging on the wall, ready to silently encourage every eye that falls on it as they step through the doors of the shelter. It seems fitting that Shelter KC's 75-year-old slogan says, 'there is hope for all who enter here.' Our prayer is that "Liberty to the Captives" will bring a sense of hope to each person who sees it and reads the verse on the plaque beneath.

The 20x40 art piece was drawn by artist Allison Bryant and hangs in a silver frame. It was created with charcoal pencil and silver metallic paint marker. The gripping art shows the moment that a captive's chains shatter against a black background - a visual representation of the freedom that Christ offers each of us.

When Jesus spoke the words in Luke 4:18 in the synagogue, He wasn’t offering a poetic vision—He was announcing His mission. He came for the broken, the overlooked, the addicted, and the oppressed. He came to bring healing where the world saw only damage, and hope where society had given up.

That mission continues today through Christ-centered shelters and recovery ministries across the country—places like Shelter KC. It's not just a place to sleep. It’s a place where men and women receive the kind of care Jesus described:

  • Good news for the poor through compassion, dignity, and community.

  • Freedom for the captive through Christ-centered programs that break the chains of addiction.

  • Recovery of sight as residents rediscover their identity, purpose, and God-given worth.

  • Release for the oppressed through counseling, discipleship, and trauma-informed care.

Every life restored is a living testimony that Luke 4:18 is still true today—that Jesus still binds up the brokenhearted, still heals those in bondage, and still brings beauty from ashes.

At Majesty Project, we are humbled to partner with ministries like Shelter KC by providing Christ-centered artwork that reinforces the message of freedom, hope, and dignity that Christ offers. When residents walk past an art piece depicting God’s presence or protection, they receive a visual reminder of the truth spoken over them: you are seen, you are loved, and you are not alone.

Majesty Project will continue to partner with Shelter KC in 2026, with two more art pieces pending installation and further plans to collaborate in their Women's Facility. We have been so blessed by the chance to join alongside their incredible ministry, becoming the hands and feet of Jesus. We look forward to partnering with countless organizations just like Shelter KC in the coming years. We are so grateful for your support on this mission.
